Life is a play of light and shadow suffering mingles with happiness and tears flow along with laughter. Hema Malini plays role of a village girl Paro who was much sought after by one and many. When she fell in love with Paras played by Sanjeev Kumar a doctor who had come to save the village from the dreaded plague the villagers could not tolerate it. Kumar was assaulted and thrown into the river to die. Paro herself was blinded. But as luck would have it Paras was survived and was admitted to a city hospital and looked after by Dr. Singh and his Daughter Dr. Manju Yogeeta Bali. Then one day a well wisher enters her life promising to restore her eyesight. He is none other than Dr. Paras who is now engaged to Dr. Manju Yogeeta Bal. What happens next forms the crux of Dhoop Chhaon.
