www.ctvvancouverisland.ca http VICTORIA -- Christy Clark's 'Families First' agenda saw meagre gains in the provincial budget. Hints suggested parents would receive some relief from increasing child care costs. The government has committed to spending 76 million dollars over three years on an Early Childhood Strategy to increase childcare spaces and develop early childhood programs and services. The government will also convert the Children's Education Fund into individual one-time post secondary grants. They are only available to kids born after 2007 in BC. Parents must apply after the children turn six and before they turn seven to get the 00 RESP. Also a tax credit for families with children under six offers parents up to 0 a year, leaving critics to wonder what is the budget for families with kids over age six.
